  25th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Dear Parishioners,

It is a human tendency to become self-absorbed at times.  While our own situation may seem overwhelming, we often discover how petty it is when compared to larger realities in life.  In light of Jesus' revelation to His disciples that He was going to be killed, the disciples argued about themselves and their own greatness.  Jesus reminded them, and us, about the simplicity of a child.  All who minister must guard against self-absorption, rooting out the jealousy, gossip and selfish ambition that bring disorder.  Let us work with gentleness and patience, with constancy, sincerity and mercy.  We must cultivate peace if we want to live in peace, not only ministry, but our world as well.  Why is this said?  Let us read the Scriptural Readings:

In the First Reading (Wisdom 2:12, 17-20), it is said that the wicked plotted to condemn the just one to death, because he is obnoxious to us, saying: "Let us condemn him to a shameful death."

The Second Reading (James 3:16-4:3), tells us that wars and conflicts arise because of envy.  The fruit of righteousness is sown in peace for those who cultivate peace.

In the Gospel Reading (Mark 9:30-37), we are told that Jesus said, "the Son of Man is to be handed over…...Whoever wishes to be first will be the last of all, and the servant of all."

Only you can answer where you stand with God.
