FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK……
PALM SUNDAY, APRIL 4TH, 2004
Dear Fellow Parishioners,
The Monarch caterpillars are out roaming around the mission grounds this week. It must be spring. Soon they will go through a mysterious and wonderful transformation that will change them into beautiful butterflies. What a reminder of the Lenten process that culminates this week in the most important three days of our entire Liturgical Year:
Holy Thursday, Good Friday, & Holy Saturday! Lent is a time to enter into our spiritual cocoon of dying to selfishness and sin so that we can arise to a new life centered no longer in ourselves but rather in the Lord and open to others in loving and generous service.
It is in this spirit that I invite each of you to journey with us this week as we celebrate the Liturgy of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday, the Lord's Passion on Good Friday, and await the Lord's glorious Resurrection at the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday. These events will take place in the La Conquistadora Conference Room of our Old Mission San Miguel Retreat Wing behind the Novitiate Building. Please follow the signs and the balloons at the gate near the Old Mission barbecue pit and picnic grounds. Come early so that you can get a good parking space. What a joyous Easter it would be to have lots of spiritual butterflies here at Old Mission San Miguel!
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Fr. Ray Tintle, OFM Pastor
