FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK……

JUNE 27, 2004

Dear Fellow Parishioners,

Athletes throughout the world are preparing themselves for the greatest challenge of their lives to receive a gold medal--the greatest reward as men and women dedicated to sports.  Yes, this Summer we will have the Summer Olympics in Greece.  Athletes go through a lot of work, dedication, self-denial, discipline and, above all, willing to get the gold medal.  Willing to triumph.

As Christians, we are called to be followers of Christ, Christians are suppose to take the Gospel to the people and be true followers of Christ.  In today's Gospel reading, St. Luke tells us of how God has called us to follow Him.  Usually, we are willing to follow and at times not putting any limits or reservations.  Others ask for time to decide or to take care of personal matters.  "Please Lord, let me go first…!"  Today, it is very hard to make serious decisions.  We want to follow Christ, but in our own way!  That, it is necessary for us to train, prepare, and dedicate ourselves to the greatest challenge of our lives, if we want to receive the greatest reward, to be Christ like and live in God's Kingdom.

Remember:  "No one who sets a hand to the plow and looks to what was left behind is fit for the kingdom of God."  (Lk 9:62)

                                         Sincerely yours in Christ,

      Fr. Joe Zermeño, OFM
