FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK……

August 1, 2005

Dear Fellow Parishioners,

Have you ever had a day when you didn't seem to accomplish anything worthwhile?  I certainly have had my share!  Those of us who have known days like that can easily identify with the theme of today's first reading taken from the Old Testament for the 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time when Qoheleth says:  "VANITY OF VANITIES!  ALL THINGS ARE VANITY!"  (See Ecclesiates 1:2).

In today's second reading from the New Testament, the Apostle Paul gives us some good advice as to how to handle life's disappointments when he says:  "...SEEK WHAT IS ABOVE, WHERE CHRIST IS SEATED AT THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD"  (see Colossians 3:1-2).  Developing a strong and vibrant relationship with Christ can get us through the toughest times.  It's a matter of priorities.  When Christ is all and in all, nothing else matters.  For whom or for what are you working?

    Sincerely yours in Christ,

    Fr. Raymond J. Tintle, OFM
    Pastor
