Kiwanis Clubs Spruce up Mission
San Miguel, CA. Saturday
February 17th 2001 -
The Kiwanis Clubs of Templeton, Atascadero, and Paso Robles came together to
help spruce up the mission’s courtyards landscaping and picnic areas. The 60 volunteers raked, hoed, planted, and
weeded the gardens. Then the volunteers
took on the painting and electrical of the picnic area and gift shop portico. They even helped up-right some 16 overturned
headstones in the cemetery. A sycamore tree was planted in memory of
Nikolas Bryant, the young man that was tragically killed just last month in a school bus accident. This was
the second year in a row that the Kiwanians gave of themselves so generously.
The "Tree-Man" nursery of
Templeton, graciously donated plants, bushes and trees. "Paso Robles Compost" kindheartedly donated 5 yards of planting soil, and "Borzini Sand Gravel and Landscape" products was kind enough to donate 5 yards of Gorilla Hair landscape topping.
The good spirited – but
tired- volunteers then enjoyed a well deserved luncheon of enchiladas, fideos, salad,
and custard prepared by Monica Cisneros, who supervises maintenance of the
mission among her many duties. She was
assisted by eager and willing helpers Pat Marchand and Doris Schaefer.
“On behalf of Br. Bill
Short, guardian of Mission San Miguel, and all the Franciscan friars, we wish
to extend our appreciation and gratitude to the Kiwanians for all their hard
work. Rest assured, our prayers are
with you all”, stated Cisneros.
This was an effort of committed love and respect by
all those participating. The mission is
truly grateful.
