Fiesta September 19th, 2004 at Old Mission San Miguel

Posted on Aug 1, 2004

A Letter from Mission San Miguel Guardian, Brother Bill Short :

Dear Friends of Mission San Miguel.

Yes, we suffered a major earthquake on December 22! The 6.5 magnitude San
Simeon Quake caused extensive damage here. Our Museum and Gift Shop have now reopened to the public after repairs funded by donations. But the Mission Church, "the jewel of the California Missions" must remain closed until we can afford to repair it.

We have not received any of the Federal or state disaster relief we have
requested. So we turn to you, our friends, to help us re-open Mission San Miguel to the public. With proceeds from this year's Fiesta, we hope to take one step toward that goal: to re-open the front arcade leading to the Mission Church. This will allow visitors once again to enjoy the cactus garden and fountain, and provide a safe exit from the Museum and Gift Shop.

This year, more than ever before, Mission San Miguel needs your support. You can help us to repair and preserve our historic Mission, and enjoy a good meal and music at the same time.--- How? Join us for our annua1 Fiesta on the third Sunday in September.
