8. Dining Room or Refectory

This room served as the dining room for the padres and their guests. Most of the furniture are reproductions of the style used during the mission period. There are still traces of the decorative painting along the lower wall. Shelves were recessed into the walls to create space to store household goods. Since there are three doorways and shelves in the walls there was no room for a window. Even if a small window was constructed higher above the shelved and doors, the wall would become too weak to hold up the heavy roof. The heat from the kitchen and the fireplace in the next room help warm this room.
